May 2022 Update

May 1, 2022

The program director has just received a time-sensitive diagnosis requiring immediate attention.  This was entirely unexpected, and the medical treatment plan makes it impossible for us to host the summer program.  ** The 2022 Summer Institute is cancelled ** We truly regret to inform you of this news.  The summer institute has continued to thrive and expand under Covid as we have always adapted to challenges; we have never cancelled the program in the many years we have offered it. Please know:

If you were already accepted:

  • You are automatically accepted to next year’s summer program.

If your application was in the queue:

  • Your 2023 application will be fast-tracked by autumn of next year, requiring no additional materials (but contingent upon your continued academic success).

If you would still like bioethics education this summer:

  • We are supporting planning for another institute who will offer a 1-week intro to bioethics this August.  It could not support all of you, but perhaps many of you could attend.  The intention is for in-person and online options.  As soon as we know more, we will contact you.

Bioethics Education with our Yale center:

  • We are hopeful to offer a few free or low-cost educational sessions this summer if the program director’s treatment plan responds to treatment.  We would email you with priority, and there would be no application for accepted students; just a simple registration form.
  • We will offer Foundations in Bioethics (our 4-day program) October 11-14.   There will certainly be an online version, and if Covid is manageable, we hope to offer a hybrid version, too. You all will be given first priority.

Special Partnerships with Masters in Bioethics Programs:

Alumni of our full summer program are eligible to apply for a special, generous scholarship at the renowned Master in Bioethics at Emory University, led by Dr. Gerard Vong.  So if you are planning on an MBE, please keep in mind this special arrangement with our bioethics center.

In closing, we very much look forward to meeting you, hearing your perspectives, engaging in ethical discussions on far-ranging subjects, and continuing to lead global bioethics education.

You are welcome to contact us at bioethics@yale.edu if you have any questions.

All best,

Lori Bruce, MA, MBE, HEC-C
