Dear Friends of the Summer Institute,

This time is bringing a great deal of uncertainty to us all, including our cherished Summer Institute whose faculty and alumni are truly from all corners of the globe, from China and Japan to Australia and New Zealand, from Nepal to Ukraine and Egypt, from the Czech Republic to Spain, and from Canada to Brazil, and Togo and South Africa and so many other countries. Our heart goes out to our program alums and colleagues across the globe who are facing uncertainty, sickness, and confusion related to COVID-19’s impact. Please know you are in our thoughts at all times.

We are receiving a great number of inquiries about whether the 2020 Summer Institute is impacted by COVID-19.  We currently have no modifications to either Foundations or our full Summer Institute schedule.  We are “full steam ahead” with planning.  In fact, we’re planning our Ethics of Public Health seminar to revolve around COVID-19, and other lectures will also certainly address related issues.

But please know that because of this time of confusion and change, our admissions process - and ability to plan the program - is a bit slower than usual.  Please be patient with us; many of our staff are unable to return to campus because Spring Break has been extended and classes are online until April 5th at a minimum.  For students who have already been accepted to the program (or have registered for Foundations): we encourage you to purchase “cancel for any reason” travel insurance and check the fine print to understand what can be covered.

But again, we would like to emphasize that Foundations and our 2020 Summer Institute currently have no modifications to the schedule. Please do check back here from time to time for updates.

Please stay healthy during this time of uncertainty.  It is times like this that can bring us all closer together, and serve as a powerful reminder of how interconnected we are.

Warmly,

Lori Bruce, MA, MBE
